Fundraising Tips and Tricks

Thank you for your dedicated support of Project Place’s Climb for a Cause. We are so excited that you’ve decided to make your impact go even further by fundraising to end homelessness. Your partnership in supporting our mission to break the cycle of homelessness and poverty in Greater Boston is invaluable. And, by deciding to fundraise, you're taking the relationship to the next level: introducing us to your friends and family. That's a big deal!

We want your Climb for a Cause fundraising journey to be as smooth and simple as possible, so we’ve put together these quick tips and tricks, as well as a more in-depth Fundraising Guide! Click the image to open the fundraising guide in a new tab, or download the file here.

Tip 1: Personalize your fundraising page!

Most people will make a donation to your fundraiser because they like you and your reasons for supporting Climb for a Cause, so upload some personal photos and write a sentence or two about why you’re fundraising!

Tip 2: Get a few donations, then start spreading the word!

People tend follow good examples, and you can make it easy for them to do so by having a few donations already on your page before you start your outreach. Ask your friends or family members for a donation before you start asking other people!

Tip 3: Share, share, share!

The best way to get donations is to ask for them, so the more you share your fundraiser, the more successful you’ll be. Try putting a link to your fundraising page in your email signature, talking about your fundraising efforts at work, school, and social gatherings, sending texts and emails, making a phone call or two, and posting on social media— you’ll find that if you ask, people will step up and support Climb for a Cause!

Tip 4: Be persistent!

Not everyone you ask is going to donate right away, but if you keep reminding them, they are more likely to. Just like with anything else, dedication and repetition pays off!

Tip 5: Finish strong!

A big final push is critical to successful fundraising. As Climb for a Cause approaches, ramp up your outreach. Your friends and family want you to succeed, so ask them for help reaching your goal!

Tip 6: Say thank you!

You can never say thanks enough, especially if you are fundraising. Thank people when they make a donation, as you reach fundraising milestones, and again after Climb for a Cause!
